Lucia Howard and David Weingarten began Ace Architects in 1979. Both received Master of Architecture degrees from the University of California, Berkeley in 1977. Lucia's undergraduate degree in English is from Wellesley College; while David's, in political science, is from Yale University. Both have taught in the Architecture Department at UC Berkeley, and are licensed architects, registered in California.

Lucia was profiled in Women of Design, published by Rizzoli; and included in the eponymous traveling exhibition, sponsored by Steelcase. Her work with David was featured in Equal Partners, an exhibit focusing on the work of architectural firms led by both women and men. Partners traveled to University Art Museum at U C Berkeley and the Smith College Art Museum. Lucia was a significant contributor to A Life by Design, the KQED television documentary examining the life and work of Julia Morgan. Last year, she was a juror for the East Bay AIA Awards.

Lucia and David are co-authors of the forthcoming California Ranch Houses, published by Rizzoli, which will appear in 2009. David has also authored Bay Area Style (Rizzoli), Ten Houses: Ace Architects (Rockport), and Souvenir Buildings/Miniature Monuments (Abrams); as well as articles for a variety of design and other periodicals. His interest in souvenir buildings has lead to exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Octagon Museum, and Museum of the City of New York.

Associate Adam Gillett joined Ace in 2004. Adam completed his Bachelor of Architecture degree at the University of Kentucky in 2001. Since that time he has worked in California while pursuing professional accreditation and his interest in digital art and design.
